The Lion King trailer: A Disney classic re-imagined as a live-action film
Disney are not holding back with these live action remakes. The release of the new Lion King next year follows on from Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and The Jungle Book, with live action remakes of Dumbo, Aladdin, Lady and the Tramp, Mulan, The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, The Sword in the Stone and Peter Pan also in various stages of development and production.
Jon Favreau will be directing what is one of Disney's most treasured modern-day releases and it also features quite the star-studded cast. The first trailer for the new Lion King film dropped during one of the Thanksgiving NFL games today and you can check it out above right now.
The film journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.
The voice cast for the film includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce as Nala, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, John Oliver as Zazu, Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, Eric Andre as Azizi, Billy Eichner as Timon and James Earl Jones returns as Mufasa.
The Lion King opens in UK cinemas on July 19th 2019.
