We’ve had live action remakes of Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and The Jungle Book in the past few years (not forgetting 101 Dalmatians back in the 90s), with Aladdin also in the can. Dumbo will be up next, and following on from the teaser back in June, Disney dropped a full length trailer overnight during the Country Music Awards in America.
The big miss from this ‘real version’ will be Timothy Q. Mouse, which will be huge gap to fill (and no crows - those pink elephants better be there). Tim Burton oddly seems like a good choice to direct this and a step outside of his typical wheelhouse would make for a refreshing change. You can watch the trailer for Dumbo above right now.
Circus owner Max Medici enlists former star Holt Farrier and his children Milly and Joe to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus.
But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere, who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant, until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.
Tim Burton directs this remake, with the cast featuring Danny DeVito, Colin Farrell, Nico Parker, Finley Hobbins, Alan Arkin, Eva Green, Michael Keaton and Roshan Seth.
Dumbo flies into UK cinemas on March 29th 2019.
