New Alita: Battle Angel trailer: A new look and a new release date
With a reported budget between $150-200m, it feels like Alita: Battle Angel will have its work cut out clawing that back. Established franchises such as Fantastic Beasts have a loyal following that pretty much ensures its success, but introducing new fantasy characters seems like a risk in a market that has become over-saturated in the past 5 years. A two month delay in the release date also shows Fox are concerned about getting this one right. The film now comes out in February, so there will be at least one more trailer to come, but in the mean time, check out the new trailer for Alita: Battle Angel above.
When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo offers instead to help trigger her memories.
But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.
Based on the manga series by Yukito Kishiro, the film also stars Keean Johnson, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Michelle Rodriguez and Jackie Earle Haley.
Robert Rodriguez directs while James Cameron is responsible for writing the screenplay.
Alita: Battle Angel arrives in UK cinemas on February 6th 2019.
