Felicity Jones to lead first Star Wars spin-off
While we wait for The Force Awakens with baited breath, we're now getting through more detail on NEXT year's Star Wars installment - the pre-New Hope spin off that was previously rumoured to focus on Boba Fett (THE most over-hyped character in any film ever?) or Han Solo.
Today it's looking likely that Theory of Everything's Oscar nominee Felicity Jones has landed, or is very close to landing) the lead role. The story is now rumoured to focus on the stealing of the Death Star plans that led to the Episode IV assault. Putting two and two together, and maybe getting twelve, we get the feeling Jones will be playing a certain royal offspring of Anakin Skywalker.
Casting is still underway for other roles and both Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Edgar Ramirez (The Evil Dead) are rumoured to be shortlisted.
Star Wars 2016 is directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and written by Chris Weitz (Antz) possibly based on an earlier screenplay by Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli). It will be in UK cinemas on 16th December 2016.
A further two spin-offs are scheduled to appear in 2018 and 2020, the first is to be directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle). There are also two further films in the main sequel trilogy being released on 2017 and 2019 and both are to be directed by Rian Johnson (Looper).
