Brosnan sacked as James Bond

Pierce Brosnan, star of GoldenEye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002), has been officially sacked from the James Bond franchise.

The Irish actor, now in his fifties, has been the subject of much speculation recently after some sources cited that EON Productions - and Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli - were unhappy with Brosnan returning to the franchise for a fifth outing. We can now confirm that Brosnan will indeed part company from the franchise that has made his name.

Screentests are now underway for the sixth actor to play Bond (or seventh if you count Peter Sellers in Casino Royale), with the release date for Bond 21 now moved to 2006. Whoever the new Bond turns out to be, he will be the first actor to inherit the role without the consent of Albert R. 'Cubby' Broccoli, who passed away in 1997.
