Universal Studios Blu-ray plans revealed

In a press release issued today Universal Studios Home Entertainment have announced their inaugural slate of Blu-ray Disc releases with a number of major film and television properties arriving later this year.

Amongst the releases are a number of day-and-date summer blockbusters which are expected to hit Blu-ray Disc later in the year and in time for the holidays. These include The Incredible Hulk, Wanted, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Mamma Mia! and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Also confirmed is TV hit series Heroes with both Seasons 1 & 2 expected to arrive on 26th August 2008.

The first wave of titles from Universal will however be of the catalogue variety, with The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King all arriving on 22nd July 2008 (which is just over a week before the theatrical release of Tomb of the Dragon Emperor).

The first day-and-date title due to arrive this summer is Neil Marshall’s Doomsday, starring Rhona Mitra, Malcolm McDowell and Bob Hoskins. Other titles due in 2008 include American Gangster, Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Miami Vice, End of Days, U-571 and Land of the Dead, among others.
