The best Prime Video movies you can stream right now: The Northman

6. The Northman (2022)

Robert Eggers, the director of A24 movies like The Witch, and The Lighthouse, took things to a far grander scale with his epic action movie The Northman.

Starring Alexander Skarsgård, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Ethan Hawke, this bloody and brutal tale of Viking warfare is stunning to look at, contains some incredible fight choreography, and offers plenty of Norse mythology if that’s your cup of tea. Read our The Northman review for more info.

The best Prime Video movies you can stream right now: Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker's Dracula

5. Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

This sumptuous ‘90s movie has everything you could possibly want; sexy vampires, gothic horror, and Keanu Reeves doing a dodgy British accent. We love this movie here at The Digital Fix, and we think Bram Stoker’s Dracula is an imperfectly perfect vampire movie.

Gary Oldman stars as the iconic bloodsucker, and Winona Ryder gives a captivating performance as the object of his affection. It’s a truly wild vampire movie, with some incredible cinematography, and scenes that will stay with you for years!

The best Prime Video movies you can stream right now: Fantastic Mr Fox

4. Fantastic Mr Fox (2009)

Stop-motion animated movies are just mind-blowing, aren’t they? Perhaps the most beautiful of them all is this Wes Anderson take on the classic children’s story, which puts a comedic spin on the iconic tale.

George Clooney lends his voice to the titular role, with Anderson regulars Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, and Willem Dafoe in support. Whether you’re looking for a family movie to entertain the kids, or just want a nice, charming film for yourself, Fantastic Mr Fox is a winner for all ages.

3. The Handmaiden (2016)

A simply stunning Korean movie that combines thrilling plot twists with all the best elements of a romance movie to leave you on the edge of your seat. Director Park Chan-wook doesn’t miss!

The Handmaiden is a sprawling tale of deception, crime, repressed feelings, and sexual desire, all wrapped up in an aesthetically-pleasing, enthralling story.

2. Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

The second movie in Star Trek‘s Kelvin Timeline revisits the character of Khan, who is now played by the indomitable Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s action-packed and sees the crew of the Enterprise facing their biggest challenge yet.

With stunning visual effects, genuinely moving moments, a Tribble cameo, and some interesting parallels with Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, this is a film that will appeal to anybody who’s even vaguely familiar with the Star Trek universe. On a bittersweet note, this film also marks the final appearance of Leonard Nimoy as the original Spock.

1. It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)

One of the best movies ever made and one that everybody should try at least once. In this movie, everything seems to be going wrong for the protagonist, George Bailey (James Stewart), so much so, that he finds himself contemplating suicide and even wishing he had never been born. It’s at this point that he’s visited by an eccentric angel named Clarence (Henry Travers).

Clarence shows George a version of the world in which he had never been born, allowing him to see that the lives of his loved ones are genuinely worse without his presence. It’s a nice, feel-good film and if you’ve never seen it before, we recommend it. It may be considered a Christmas movie, but much of the action takes place at different times throughout the year, so there’s no reason you couldn’t watch it at any time.
