Indiana Jones 5 cast, trailer, plot, release date, and reviews

Harrison Ford is coming back for the Indiana Jones 5 release date, with James Mangold directing the new movie, and we've uncovered all the important details.

Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones

Who’s in the Indiana Jones cast? Harrison Ford is back for another adventure movie featuring the globe-trotting archaeologist. This time, he’s being directed by James Mangold for another storied chapter in the life of ol’ Indy.

The fifth Indiana Jones adventure has been in development since way back in 2008. George Lucas had been working on a concept, with Steven Spielberg set to direct the new movie. However, it wasn’t until the mid-2010s that it was made official. Unfortunately, there have been some delays since then and some personnel changes.

This won’t be a Steven Spielberg movie as the lauded director has chosen to step down from helming the production, and it will be the first of the Indiana Jones movies in order with no input from Lucas. But Ford has remained, with Mangold now in the director’s chair commandeering the rest of the Indiana Jones 5 cast. What dangers will Indy face here? Make sure you’ve got your fedora handy, and it probably wouldn’t hurt to bring a pocket knife.

Who is the Indiana Jones 5 cast?

Naturally, Harrison Ford returned as the intrepid explorer Indiana Jones. He was joined by newcomers Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who’s played his goddaughter Helena Shaw, and Mads Mikkelsen, who was villainous Jürgen Voller.

Here is the full  Indiana Jones 5 cast:

  • Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones
  • Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Helena Shaw
  • Mads Mikkelsen as Jürgen Voller
  • Antonio Banderas as Renaldo
  • John Rhys-Davies as Sallah
  • Shaunette Renée Wilson as Mason
  • Thomas Kretschmann as Colonel Weber
  • Toby Jones as Basil
  • Boyd Holbrook as Klaber

indiana jones 5 release date: Harrison Ford de-aged in Indiana Jones 5

What is Indiana Jones 5 about?

Indiana Jones 5 tells the story of Indy’s involvement in the Space Race, the influence of ex-Nazis on the NASA space program, and the titular Dial of Destiny artifact.

Indy will be looking into what the ex-Nazis are up to, which will bring him into conflict with Voller. Mikkelsen’s playing Voller, and we think he has the potential to go down as one of the best movie villains of all time.

The Dial of Destiny trailer confirms that we will get some de-aging of Harrison Ford for flashback scenes, and it’s been confirmed the movie kicks off with a set piece in the past.

Our own man in Cannes, Luke Hearfield, said in our Indiana Jones 5 review that the movie is “let down by an over-reliance on nostalgia”.

At the time of writing, Indy’s fifth outing scores 66% on Rotten Tomatoes and 58% on Metacritic. Fortunately, the most important Indiana Jones 5 review was a positive one.
